How to get ready for labour?
Childbirth is an extraordinary event and proper preparation can help you feel calmer and more confident. Here are three simple practices you can do before your baby is born:
- Daily walking and yoga exercises – they promote good physical fitness, blood circulation, kidney function, digestion and release tension.
- Mental preparation – the skill of meditation and deep relaxation will help you recover more easily between the labour contractions.
- Breathing exercises and positive affirmations give you calmness – they help you manage contractions and maintain control of your body.
What to bring to the maternity ward?
Having your bag ready in advance will save you stress when the time comes. What else should be in it besides the essentials you probably already have prepared?
For the mother
- Birth wishes (plan), if you have prepared one
- Massage oil for childbirth or oil for perineal massage
- Candy glucose – Fast-acting energy that can be used both for you and your companion
- A small blanket to ensure the newborn baby’s body temperature during bonding
- ID documents (pregnancy card, health insurance card, ID card, birth certificate), but don’t worry, you can give birth without them as well
For the first days with your baby
- Baby cosmetics without perfumes and preservatives – oil and cream for the bum will do perfectly
- Moisturised or oiled wipes without preservatives
- One small pack of disposable nappies (3 – 6 kg)
